In the summer of 2021, funded by the Scott Research Fellowship and hosted by the Global Diversity Foundation and the Moroccan Biodiversity and Livelihood Association, I traveled to Morocco to study “cultural practices of conservation”. Traditional models of conservation typically rely on top-down approaches without community stewardship. My hosts’ approach is to promote conservation traditional cultural/agricultural practices as conservation. Across the world, studies have shown that community-driven conservation is more effective than top-down approaches.
